 PADDY, A REAL CHARACTER

Pictured as a youngster, New Zealand import Ch. Stormwey Paddy ROM, a son of Desaree of Dwynella by Ch. Revelmere Cock-a-Hoop, was the TERENELF foundation stud dog. He produced ten champions in the US and one in Canada.  My beloved Paddy died in July 1995 at the age of fourteen in my arms early one morning.

Paddy had some lovely kids and his bitches produced down the generations, with an ROM daughter, Ch. Terenelf's Honeyfox ROMX (dam of 9 Ch.), Ch. Terenelf's Paddy's Holiday and a granddaughter, Terenelf's Tickle My Fancy ROM, dam of 7 Ch. He also produced my favorite dog of all time, my "Hoppie", my heart, my Ch. Terenelf's Paddy Hopscotch, who was the top winning bitch at one point and had multiple Group wins and placements.

One of life's biggest thrills for him was getting a bath.  Many dogs just endure a bath, but Paddy absolutely loved his, getting excited as soon as he knew a bath was iminent. He would moan and groan, kiss me, lean into the scrubbing, etc. But the funniest thing happened during the blow drying, his favorite part of the routine. He'd always face the blower to make me hit his chest and put his chin up so I could get the air in just the right place. The thing he'd do that cracked me up was to pick up first one front leg and then the other, holding them so that I could thoroughly dry his underarms. This was a dog that also had the unusual habit of hiking two legs on the same side when he urinated! First he would lift the hind leg, then brace the front leg on the object being christened.

Right up to his last day, Paddy was playful and energetic, but he spent the last afternoon in my lap, giving numerous kisses, seeming to feel fine.   All his puppies seemed to have very interesting personalities like he did.  One of Debbie Harper's male puppies (out of a litter of 9 boys and one girl) also hiked his leg using the lifting two legs on the same side system.

Paddy coveted toys he'd see. If puppies were out in an ex-pen and they had a toy he wanted, Paddy persistently circled the pen, waiting until the puppies let the toy get too close to the edge and then he would easily pull it through and prance off with it, gaily tossing it into the air and catching it. He particularly wanted a latex hedgehog that some little puppies had.  And once I had to pull  a nearly swallowed sock back out! I loved him and I sure miss my Paddy.
